Spirit is all about Raghunandan (Mohanlal) who is a writer and a person who is addicted to alcohol. He had to divorce his wife Meera (Kaniha) due to his Affection to Alcohol. Meera is now married to Alexi (Shankar Ramakrishnan). Raghu conducts a show named “Show the Spirit” in which he counters some famous people. Sameer (Sidharth Bharathan) is a Lyricist and a friend of Raghu. Sameer dies out of addiction to alcohol in front of Reghu which changes Reghus mind and he neede to be free from Alcohol. Mani (Nandu) is a plumber who is deeply addicted to Alcohol. Reghu works against alcohol consumption through the Programme showing Mani’s one day life.
The movies first half showed the life of a drunken Reghu. The half had its moments with very few one liner comedies. The second half was a pretty serious one as compared to the first half where Reghu was working against alcohol consumption. The scenes which showed cigarette and drinks were more that audience felt irritating at parts.
Ranjiths direction gets better each time he is out with a movie. This time he has not made a script which is a classy one like his last three outings. The script felt like an ordinary one at some parts. But his script too had its moments in this movie. Cinematography by Venu was beautiful. The Editing section was perfect by Sandeep. The songs were well made and melodious to hear. The credit goes to Shahabaz Aman. BGM was a little bit noisy which can irritate viewers.
In the acting section there was a good show by all the actors especially Mohanlal who was the show Stealer. Well supported by Sidharth, Madhu, Shankar and Tini Tom .Nandu has had a great role which may be treated as his life time best. Kalpana and Kaniha also needs a special mention for their roles.
Ranjith will enjoy his outing once again eventhough he has not made a class movie this time. The Movie is expected to be a hit from the response it’s getting from the theaters. The movie is registering a huge rush and house full shows all over . We have to wait to see how the weekdays go for Spirit.
